FAYETTEVILLE — One run was all that was needed to decide the first ever All American Conference Baseball Tournament champion.
Triton freshman Isaac Bennett went yard in the second inning Thursday, providing the title game's only score in a 1-0 shutout at top-seeded Terry Sanford.
A true defensive clinic, Triton (17-7) pitcher Hayden Pope threw five innings of one-hit baseball while striking out two and giving up just two walks.
Wyatt Avery finished off the team's eighth straight victory, pitching the final two hitless innings with three punchouts.
The loss marked a first to an AAC opponent for Terry Sanford (18-6), who went undefeated through its league slate during the regular season.
Ross Steven and Anthony Jones joined Bennett in the hit column for the Hawks, who finished second to the Bulldogs in the regular-season standings and now await Monday's state playoff brackets unveiling by the North Carolina High School Athletic Associaton.
