ANGIER — Mrs. Helen Sorrell Stephenson, age 92, of Zack’s Mill Road, passed away Friday, Jan. 15, 2021 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, in Roselawn Cemetery, Benson. Officiating will be the Rev. Adam Jones, Mr. Ashley Jones and Mr. Michael Jones.
Mrs. Stephenson was born Dec. 17, 1928 in Harnett County to the late Howard Lentis and Maude Opal Penny Stephenson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Earl Stephenson; daughter, Rose Jackson; and brothers, Billy Sorrell, Willie Joe Sorrell and Don Sorrell. She was a homemaker and loved her entire family, including her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Stephenson always welcomed family and friends into her home with a smile and a hug.
Survivors include her children, Chester Earl Stephenson Jr. and wife, Sandra of Benson, Danny Ray Stephenson and wife, Diane of Melbourne, Florida, and Barbara Jones and husband, Donald of Dunn; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty Sorrell of Angier, Opal Coats and husband, James of Benson; brothers, H.L. Sorrell and wife, Gayle of Coats, and Keith Sorrell and wife, Linda of Angier; son-in-law, Tom Jackson of Dunn; sisters-in-law, Genevieve Sorrell of Benson, Joyce Sorrell of Benson, and Callie Sorrell of Apex; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Stephenson’s family will receive friends following the graveside service.
In accordance with NC-COVID-19 guidelines, the funeral home suggests practicing social distancing and the three W’s: wait, wash, and wear a face covering. Masks are required for all services.
