LUNENBURG, NS — James Ferrell Sugg died in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, on Nov. 29, 2020. He was born in Dunn, North Carolina, on June 17, 1931, the son of Caroline Hodges Schwill and James Ollie “J.O.” Sugg. Jim graduated from Dunn High School and Baylor University with both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in music in voice performance. He also studied in Austria and Yugoslavia.
Jim served four years in the U.S. Navy. He worked for eight years in New York City for Cobert Artist Management, and was on the music faculty for 22 years at Acadia University, Wolfville, Nova Scotia.
Jim is survived by many cousins on both sides including Nancye Sugg Johnson, Beanie Strickland Roberts, Martha Sugg Fleming, and Donna Ruth Ennis Scott. He is also survived by his adopted family, Mary Knickle and Tessa and Craig Ferguson. Arrangements are being handled by Sweeney Funeral Home of Lunenburg.
A celebration of Jim’s life is planned for spring of 2021.
