Overhills' girls basketball team earned its first victory of the season Tuesday during the consolation game of this year's Bennie Pollock Memorial tournament.
ANGIER — Overhills' girls basketball team cruised to a victory over Harnett Central, 60-20, to get third place in the Bennie Pollock Memorial Tournament on Tuesday.
Sophomore forward Eva McRae lead Overhills (1-1) in scoring with 14 points. Freshman point guard Morgan Williams chipped in with 11 points.
Senior guard Shay Ward led Harnett Central (0-2) in scoring with six points.
Overhills went on a 9-2 run to start the game.
The Lady Jags led by 13 points at the end of the first quarter and they never relinquished their lead nor allowed the home crowd to make any impact on the game.
From the start of the opening tip and throughout the game, Overhills used their length and size to their advantage and scored many of their points in the paint.
The game went exactly how Overhills head coach Nick Lewis planned it.
“That’s the plan for the whole season," Lewis said. “Starting in and working our way out."
Coach Lewis thinks this win will give the team confidence to achieve their goal.
“We have a goal to make the playoffs this year and I think this team is very capable of making the playoffs,” coach Lewis replied.
Overhills plays their first home game of the season on Monday, Nov. 29 at 6 p.m. against Cape Fear.
Harnett Central will host South Johnston on Wednesday, Dec., 1 at 4:30 p.m.
