Following a second-round rout to open the NCISAA 1A softball playoffs Monday, Cape Fear Christian Academy traveled to Pungo Christian with a trip to the state championship game on the line.

Local roundup: CFCA softball advances to state title series


BELHAVEN — For the second time in three years, Cape Fear Christian Academy is set to play for a softball state championship. 

The Lady Eagles topped Pungo Christian, 6-2, in the semifinal round of the North Carolina Independent School Athletic Association 1A state playoffs on Tuesday. 

Third-seeded CFCA (10-2-1) travels to top seed Halifax Friday to start the state title series. 

Kristina Kennedy went 4-for-4 with three RBIs to lead the Lady Eagles. Averi Williams was 2-for-3 and also collected three RBIs. 

Meanwhile, Sandhills Conference Player of the Year Claire Parker went seven innings in the circle, giving up three hits while striking out nine. 

Cailee Ray finished with two hits, while Bekah Ennis, Rhyleigh Horne and Mariah Bell each added a hit in the win to oust No. 2 Pungo. 

Tuesday's baseball results: 

Midway 9, Goldsboro 0. 

Southern Lee 14, Western Harnett 4.

Harnett Central 2, Union Pines 4.
