RALEIGH — Mary Elizabeth Weaver Daniels, 91, passed away Monday, Nov. 23, 2020, at Springmoor Health Center in Raleigh.

Mary Elizabeth Weaver Daniels was born April 25, 1929, in Rocky Mount to the late John and Mary Weaver. She graduated from Rocky Mount High School and Salem College. She married W. Ray Daniels, also from Rocky Mount, in 1951. They were married for 67 years. They had two children, John and Kim.

Lib taught school for many years and was a teacher and Head Mistress at Cape Fear Christian Academy in Erwin. She put her heart and soul into “being an Eagle.” She was very active in the First Baptist Church of Dunn, where she was a Sunday school teacher and deacon. Lib was a past president of The Women’s Club of North Carolina. She received one of the highest honors bestowed on a North Carolinian. Gov. James B. Hunt honored her with The Order of The Long Leaf Pine Award. She was also a former “Woman of the Year” of Dunn.

Lib was a very generous, loving and caring person. She loved the Lord, her family, and her many friends. Her greatest pride was her four grandsons. She loved them “more than Peter loved the Lord” as she would tell them. Lib spent her last years at Springmoor Life Care Retirement Community in Raleigh. The family wants to thank them for their constant love and care. Lib will be missed by many because of her robust personality.

Due to COVID-19, the family will be holding a private service.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Dewey; her husband, Ray; her nieces, Elizabeth Lane and Ann; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. She is survived by her son, John and his wife Mary; her daughter, Kim and her husband Grant; and her four grandsons, Greyson Daniels, Bryan Daniels, Staton Grimes and Eason Grimes.
