Mt. Elam Baptist Church, located in the Midway community of Sampson County, celebrated its 150th homecoming Sunday, Oct. 4, with 286 people attending a drive-in service.

U.S. Air Force retired Col. Durwood Williams and Dr. Randy White of the New South River Baptist Association were the guest speakers.

Music was provided by Greg Tart of Benson, as well as the Mt. Elam Singers.

A lunch was catered directly to the cars by Sandpiper.

Mt. Elam Baptist Church was founded in 1870 when 28 individuals met together at the Straw Pond Schoolhouse and constituted Mt. Elam Baptist Church, which would be “for the glory of God and the mutual edification of the people.”

It is located at 2211 Mount Elam Church Road. Brandon Glunt is the pastor.
