LAKE WORTH, Fla.— Pontus Nyholm claimed individual honors and Campbell finished fourth on the team leaderboard after Tuesday’s final round of the Southern Invitational at the Falls Club.

Nyholm shot a collegiate-low 8-under-par 64 Monday to finish the event at 9-under, one stroke ahead of runner-up Peter Gasperini of Virginia Commonwealth University.

Campbell finished fourth overall, with a score of 6-under, in the 12-team field.

Nyholm made nine birdies Monday – and led the event with 17 – to record his second collegiate victory. The only blemish on his scorecard was a bogey on the par-three 16th, but Nyholm birdied the par-four 17th and made par on the final hole to secure individual honors.

Rated No. 73 in the latest World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR), Nyholm played the par-five holes 8-under over three rounds.

“I spent the majority of the day with Pontus and his group,” said Campbell head coach John Crooks.  “I saw some great golf by a great player.  We are so proud of Pontus’ most recent win.”

Middle Tennessee State (281-291-271—843) won team honors at 21-under, nine shots ahead of VCU and Mercer.

Ranked No. 44 by Golfstat, Campbell was 12-under on the day as a team.

Junior Henrik Lilja tied for 19th individually, while senior Josh Hetherington and red-shirt freshman Romain Lanteri tied for 28th.

Hetherington and Lilja both made 13 birdies (tied for seventh) and Lanteri 11 in the two-day event.

Campbell continues its spring schedule March 19-21 in the Schenkel Invitational, hosted by Georgia Southern at Forest Heights Country Club in Statesboro, Georgia.
