Hurricanes score 26 points in 2nd half
CALYPSO - Pamlico County erupted for 20 third-quarter points and cruised past North Duplin, 32-8, at H.E. Grubbs Field on Friday evening.
The Hurricanes snapped the Rebels’ modest two-game win streak.
Donovan Armwood accounted for North Duplin’s lone touchdown - a three-yard pass from freshman quarterback Luke Kelly in the fourth quarter. Kelly also completed an 11-yard pass to senior Landen Kelly.
Sophomore DuJuan Armwood emerged as the Rebels’ top rusher with 93 yards on 29 carries. Sophomore Khamari Leak added 42 yards on two attempts.
Pamlico’s defense held North Duplin to 123 yards rushing. The Hurricanes logged seven tackles for minus-12 yards.
Landen Kelly averaged 38.0 yards on five punts, including a 52-yard kick.
North Duplin (2-3 overall) is off until Oct 8 when it starts a three-game road swing at Carolina 1A rival Lakewood. Kickoff is 7 p.m. in Salemburg.
