ERWIN — Mr. Richard Thomas West, 71, passed away Friday morning, Feb. 19, 2021 at his

home surrounded by his family.

Mr. West was born May 30, 1949 in Harnett County. He was the son of the late Edward Thomas

and Annie Mae Lambeth West. He was also preceded in death by a stepson, Jason Thomas Taylor; and great-grandson, Brazon Sugg.

Mr. Richard West was a beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather,

and friend to many. One could oftentimes find him at the airfield of Pope Air Force Base, or on a camping trip with Boy Scout Troop No. 157, or in a deer stand in Bladen County, Lillington, or even right behind the house; or in the garden tending to an abundance of vegetables and grapevines, or on a fishing boat at Rhodes Pond, or sitting on the front pew of his beloved Erwin United Methodist Church. Richard was a kind-hearted man who was quick to laugh and always had a joke to brighten your day. He worked hard all his life for his family, and he passed on that work ethic to his children and grandchildren. Faith and family meant the world to him, and he leaves behind a wonderful legacy full of happy memories and love that we all will cherish.

He was a 1967 graduate of Erwin High School. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force with 21 years of service as well as the City of Dunn Water Plant in Erwin with 21 years of service.

A public viewing was held from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20 at Skinner & Smith Funeral Home in Dunn.
