This year's Dixie Youth Baseball state tournament from Dunn got off to a wet start after threatening weather Friday caused the opening festivities to be canceled.

DUNN — Friday's first-night festivities for the 2021 Dixie Youth Baseball (DYB) AAA and AA State Tournament were called off by officials following a round of evening thunderstorms at Tyler Park.
According to Dunn Parks and Recreation management, both the "Around the Horn" and opening ceremony have been canceled.
First- and second-round games for Saturday are expected to start at their normal times, with AA (8-and-under) kicking off the tournament at 11 a.m.
As the host city, Dunn will have one team in each bracket. The Dunn AA All-Stars are matched with South Columbus at 12:30 p.m. to start the first round, while Dunn's AAA (10u) team opens its tourney against West Lincoln at 4 p.m.
All games are scheduled to be played at Tyler Park, with the AA tourney ending Tuesday, July 13 and the AAA championships finishing Friday, July 16.
