Schools announce closures ahead of expected wintry weather


Local school districts have announced closures and early dismissal times ahead of expected wintry weather in the region beginning Thursday. 

Harnett County Schools will he closed Thursday for students and staff due to inclement weather, according to a release from HCS Wednesday night.

Johnston County Public Schools will dismiss 3 hours early on Thursday, due to the threat of wintry weather “for all students, staff and all after school activities and programs,” according to a JCPS release Wednesday. All CTLA, early college and choice plus programs and classes will also be closed for students and staff on Thursday.

A decision regarding Friday classes will be made later, according to JCPS, as the district monitors road conditions.

In Sampson County, schools will dismiss 2 hours early on Thursday, according to a release from the district.

Forecasts are calling for at least an inch or more of snow in central North Carolina.
