Almost all local boys’ soccer teams have now opened their respective seasons after a busy week on the pitch. Here’s a look at the scores, including big wins from Triton and Hobbton.

Triton

Merced Mendez scored a pair of goals to lead Triton to a 4-0 shutout win at South Johnston Wednesday.

Benny Villalvazo and Franciso Martinez both finished with a goal and an assist for the Hawks, who led 3-0 at the half.

Triton (1-0) senior Mario Purata Aguillon ended with two assists.

Hobbton

The Wildcats bounced back from an opening-week loss, defeating Carolina 1A Conference opponent Princeton, 2-0, on the road Tuesday.

Hobbton (1-1) junior Jose Rendon scored both goals, one in the first half and one in the second. Cris Gil and Jared Sanchez both finished with an assist in the win.

“I thought we responded well after the Midway [loss],” said Hobbton coach Jonathan Jacobs. “We are still working on things and trying to get better each day.”

Midway

In the team’s first East Central 2A Conference match Wednesday, Midway fell at Spring Creek 9-2.

Midway (1-1) freshman Heinze Mondragon scored his fourth goal of the season after posting a hat trick in the team’s opening win last week.

Junior Acosta netted the Raiders’ other goal as they trailed 5-0 at the half before being outscored 4-2 after the break.

Harnett Central

Central dropped its opener Wednesday, falling at West Johnston 5-1 in a non-conference matchup.

The Trojans (0-1) fell behind 3-0 at the intermission, then scored the lone goal in the second half.
