Show me the money

I am all for staff pay raises (mentioned in Tuesday’s Daily Record story “Fleming pushes for increased teacher pay”) but our superintendent has forfeited any funds from the lottery in exchange for a grant. In addition, he is proposing new schools, add-ons to current buildings while closing Wayne Avenue Elementary. Where is the money coming from to support all of his plans? One school that is always overlooked is Lillington Shawtown. They are still in huts, are very crowded and have no gym for the many students. When the central office realized an activity room was no substitute for a gym, construction on gyms were completed at Wayne Avenue and Coats Elementary, but never for the students at Lillington. Before spending more money perhaps we should take care of forgotten projects and have a plan from where the money will come.
