Don’t play Santa with tax dollars
I salute the Harnett County commissioners who voted not to fund nonprofits with our taxpayer money. If Mark Johnson wants to play Santa Claus with taxpayer funds, let him and those who reached out to him do it privately. I hope someone challenges Mr. Johnson next election. He or she will get my vote.
Aren’t RV parks outlawed?
There is an RV park set to open on N.C. Highway 55 east of Dunn in Harnett County on the old McLamb pond property. The site is not in the Dunn city limits but is in the Dunn planning area. Dunn city authorities have approved this RV park to be established on the field next to the pond. However, Harnett County as well as nearby Sampson County have outlawed such RV parks. Please have someone explain to me how this is happening. Sounds like something is not right here.
Missing name of soldier
Being the granddaughter of a gentleman who served in three wars (Spanish 1899, Boxer Rebellion 1900 and World War I) I always tear up when I read so many names of those who never made it home. However, there was one name missing from Harnett County in the Korean War. CPL Joseph A. Murchison was killed in a tank battle on May 26, 1953 in Kia, Chorwan Valley. He is buried in the Wilkins Cemetery in Dunn.
From the Editor: The Daily Record publishes a list of fallen soldiers every Memorial Day. Cpl. Joseph A. Murchison will be added to our list. If you know of someone, locally, who was lost in a war and who did not appear in the latest May 27 edition, please email the soldier’s name, rank, branch and conflict to email@example.com or drop it off at The Daily Record office at 99 W. Broad St., Dunn.
