No taxpayer money for nonprofits

My response to the Feb. 2 article “Harnett County now accepting applications for nonprofit funding” is why is the Harnett County board even considering this? Even when property taxpayers were not struggling to pay these taxes, no funds should be used on such nonessential spending.

If the nonprofits cannot survive on their own fundraising, let them “die on the vine” instead of being an imposition on the taxpayers.

If there are those that believe a nonprofit is so worthwhile, let them donate to it privately. Instead of picking winners and losers of receiving such funds, forego any subsidy of nonprofits. I assure you that Harnett County taxpayers know better how to spend their money than this.
