Spring sports sign-ups scheduled at local rec departments

Posted

Registration is now open for youth spring sports leagues hosted by Dunn Parks and Recreation.

The department is offering T-ball, baseball and softball with expected start dates in April.

Baseball leagues are separated into three age groups: double-A (ages 7 to 8), triple-A (ages 9 to 10) and majors (ages 11-12).  Softball leagues available are: Darlings (ages 7 to 8), Angels (ages 9 to 10) and Ponytails (ages 11 to 12).

The league age date for baseball is May 1 and August 1 for softball.

Meanwhile, T-ball is offered for ages 3 to 4 and 5 to 6, with the league age date being May 1.

Sign-ups for baseball and softball conclude March 9 and March 31 for T-ball, carrying a $25 fee for in-town residents and $60 for those outside of city limits.

Registration for all three sports can be completed online using this website or at Dr. P.K. Vyas Recreational Center, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

For baseball and softball draft information, check the notes on your receipt if you register online. T-ball teams are posted at the Dunn P&R office or website on April 18.

Angier

Spring sports registration for Angier Parks and Recreation is held from Feb. 21 to March 18.

Baseball and softball leagues are available for children ages 3 to 12.

Practices and games will be scheduled Monday through Saturday. Coaches normally get a sponsor for each team to cover uniforms.

For the first time ever, spring soccer will also be offered with three co-ed divisions– 5-and-under, 8u and 11u.

Register in-person at the Angier Town Hall, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., or visit the town's website to download forms and pay online.

Western Harnett

The Western Harnett Youth Recreation Department recently announced that registration for baseball and softball will begin on Monday, Feb. 21 and run through Saturday, March 5th.

Baseball and softball leagues are for boys and girls ages 4 to 15.

A player must be 4 before May 1 to be eligible to play. Boys can not turn 16 before May 1 and girls can not turn 16 before Jan. 1.

Parents may register at the department’s office, located between Western Harnett Middle and High, on weekdays from 9 a.m. to noon or on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sign-ups carry a $60 fee and are also available online at the rec website.

If you register online, you will receive a confirmation email with information about team placement dates and times for each age group.
