Registration is underway to participate in an event to benefit the Dunn Area History Museum. The second annual motorcycle “Ride for History” will be held Saturday, May 1.

Kick stands up and start time is 10:30 a.m. from the Dunn Shrine Center parking lot at 211 N. Clinton Ave.

The fees are $25 for the driver and $10 for passengers.

“All fees go to support the Dunn Area History Museum,” said museum Vice President Mark Johnson, who invites everyone to come out and be a part of this annual event.

“Ride for History” participants will leave the parking facility at the Dunn Shrine Center and ride in an escorted group to several points around Harnett County. The ride will include passes and possible stops at several locations and will return to the Shrine Center where light food, water and soft drinks will be provided free to participants. Food trucks are also set to be in downtown Dunn that day.

Once back at the parking lot, trophies will be presented for prettiest motorcycle and the oldest motorcycle.

Participants will be given numbered tickets during registration and several lucky winners will receive door prizes after the ride. A 50/50 cash drawing also will be held.

Grand prize will be a Ruger 10/22.22 caliber semi-automatic rifle. The winner must be qualified to own this firearm in order to receive the prize. The transaction will be through Gunner’s Choice Outfitters in Dunn.

Johnson is asking those interested in participating to go ahead and register, so they can plan for the food to be provided after the ride. However, registration is being excepted up until 10 a.m. on the day of the event.

The ride will take place rain or shine.

For more information or to register in advance, stop by the museum at 201 E. Broad St., Dunn, or call 910-891-1772.

The Dunn Area History Museum is filled with artifacts and historical materials pertaining to the history, culture and heritage of the local area.

It is now open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
