A longtime beach music favorite, The Embers featuring Craig Woolard, will get the 2021 Sundown in Downtown concert series started in Benson on Thursday, May 13.

The music will begin at 5:30 p.m. with DJ Mike Worley and The Embers taking the stage from 6 to 9 p.m.

Admission is free.

The concert will be at the Benson Singing Grove located at 400 E. Main St. There will be several food vendors and attendees should bring their own chair.

Loretta H. Byrd, president and CEO of the Benson Area Chamber of Commerce, said COVID regulations will be observed. “Social distancing and families/friends should sit in pods,” she said. “While face masks are not required outside, attendees are asked to wear a mask while in the food line or restrooms.”

The Embers have had numerous albums and single releases that span decades. The group has been inducted into the South Carolina Rhythm and Blues Hall of Fame and the South Carolina Beach Music Hall of Fame.

According to the band’s website, “The Embers consider the genre of Beach Music as ‘music with a memory’ and have been creating lasting memories since its inception in 1958.”

Upcoming Sundown in Downtown concert events include:

  • June 10: Liquid Pleasure
  • July 8: Jonathan Parker
  • Aug. 12: Coastline
  • Sept. 9: Band of Oz
