Once resolved, sidewalk project can start
Town attorney W. Carroll Turner and the niece of a property owner have appeared to resolve an easement issue which delayed the town’s sidewalk project.
The niece is handling legal matters that involve a three-block area on South Church, Franklin and Nelson streets.
“I am confident we will now be able to work out an agreement and get the easement we need to move forward with the first phase,” said Town Manager Jammie Royall. “This thing has been dragging too long.”
Funded by state Powell Aid money, the three-phase project involves work on Franklin, Nelson, Hillsboro, South Church and Center Streets.
The job should take three years to complete.
