Wallace Delton Autry, 85


Mr. Wallace Delton Autry, 85, of Dunn died Thursday morning, Sept. 24, 2020, at Harnett Woods Nursing and Rehab. He was born in Harnett County on April 27, 1935, to the late George R. and Bertie L. Autry. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Susie Autry; a sister, Margaret Parker; and three brothers, Raz, Corbett and George Autry. 

Wallace served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He served on two destroyers, the USS Walker and the USS McGinty. He worked as a sale representative for Sears for over 30 years. 

Wallace was known as Hop to his brothers and sisters. 

A private service will be held for Wallace.

He is survived by his wife, Edna Autry of Dunn; a son, Wally Autry and wife Denise of Raleigh; five daughters, Laura Cotton of St. Augustine, Florida, Terry Gill and husband Pat of Dunn, Margaret Elvers and husband John of Raleigh, Diane Johnson and husband Jim of Cary, and Elizabeth Hodges and husband Stephen of Dunn; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. 

The family asks instead of flowers that memorials be made to Special Olympics of Cumberland County, Attn: Kim Shewchuk, 1600 Purdue Dr., Fayetteville, NC 28304.
